PARTNER • CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™
Gus grew up asking the same questions his clients ask now — how do you make good financial decisions, avoid costly mistakes, and build a life that actually makes sense? He has spent his career trying to answer those questions as honestly as he can.
Gus grew up in Hays, Kansas, where he learned that straight answers and real relationships matter more than complexity. Reading Dave Ramsey's books as a kid got him interested in money, and in the behavior and emotion behind it, long before he earned his Finance degree from Kansas State University.
HOW GUS WORKS
Gus co-founded Latticework with his business partner, Preston, and is the firm's primary client-facing advisor. He believes a plan only works when the advisor understands the person behind it: their priorities, their worries, and what they're really trying to accomplish.
Gus is skeptical of strategies that look better in a brochure than in practice and engages each client on a truly individual basis. His work covers retirement income, tax strategy, Social Security, Medicare, business retirement plans, insurance, and estate planning coordination. Every plan is built around the client, not a template.
OUTSIDE THE OFFICE
Gus lives in Overland Park with his wife, Kelsey, and their four children: Vincent, Frannie, George, and Charlie. He's a lifelong K-State fan who enjoys golf and craft breweries. He's also a licensed private pilot, a hobby that rewards the same preparation, attention to risk, and checklist discipline he brings to his clients' planning.
Start a Conversation
Gus offers complimentary initial consultations for individuals, families, and business owners in the Overland Park and Kansas City area. There is no obligation — just an honest conversation about where you are and where you are trying to go.

PARTNER • CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER
Preston’s temperament as an investor traces back to an unlikely teacher: the cello. He credits years of practice as a child, with his mother at his side, with instilling patience, focus, and composure.
Preston co-founded Latticework Investment Management with Gus Konz and serves as its Chief Investment Officer. He works with individuals, families, and institutions to develop personalized investment strategies that help them achieve their financial objectives, with careful attention to risk.
A CFA® charterholder with more than a decade of investment management experience, he previously served as Partner and Director of Research at Werth Wealth Management. He holds two degrees from the University of Chicago: a BA in Economics and an MBA from Booth, with concentrations in Analytic Finance and Economics. His studies included coursework in option pricing at the London School of Economics.
Chicago, home of the efficient market hypothesis, taught Preston to respect how well markets price information. Omaha, where he has attended Berkshire Hathaway’s annual meeting since 2012, offered the counterpoint. Studying Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger showed him that swings in investor psychology can occasionally create dislocations between price and value. Markets, he believes, are efficient enough to demand humility and human enough to reward discipline.
His approach to risk reflects both perspectives. Academic finance emphasizes the uncertainty of investment outcomes, while Benjamin Graham and Warren Buffett focus on avoiding permanent loss of capital. Preston weighs the latter most heavily, distinguishing temporary price declines from lasting impairment. In his view, disciplined investing means separating what can be known from what cannot, and having the patience to wait until the potential reward justifies the risk. Because a single result can flatter a poor decision or punish a sound one, he judges decisions by the quality of their reasoning, not simply their outcomes.
The habit of drawing on more than one way of thinking is the idea behind the firm’s name. Munger argued that sound judgment requires a “latticework of models” drawn from many disciplines.
OUTSIDE THE OFFICE
Preston lives in Overland Park with his wife, Macy, and their children, Colette and Alden, with another little one on the way. He’s a devoted Chiefs fan and a Buffett fan in more ways than one: when he’s not studying Warren, Jimmy is probably playing in the background.
